Email transcript referred in item 2:
{%|         Just to let you know that we are in the process of compiling a comprehensive directory of ALL businesses in Charnwood.  We have acquired a list of 6000 businesses and are in the process of contacting them to verify and add to their information.  This will appear in www.charnwoodbusiness.com which has currently reached about 1500 businesses.

What is probably of greater interest to you is that there will be a LOCAL directory for every major town and village with a map showing the details and locations of those businesses.  Every entry is controlled by the business once they have registered and the entry is free.

If you wish to produce a paper directory, that is fine with us but we do not have the resources to fund this and have taken a conscious decision not to produce any Charnwood paper directory because it becomes out of date so quickly.  However for a village it may be more viable.

Hope this helps.  Please contact either Ray Hurst (01509 634534) or myself for further details

Welcome - Parish Heritage Warden

The Chair welcomed Mike Jenkins who is to take on the role of Parish Heritage Warden.  The County Council on the recommendation of the Parish Council appoints heritage wardens.  Mike has lived in Woodhouse for some years and his interest is in environmental matters.  The Group thought that it would be interesting if of all the Parish Wardens came along to a meeting to inform everyone of their work.

Approved.

Matters arising

Best Village

Rosemary reported on the Best Village competition awards ceremony, held at Beaumanor Hall on 9 September.  This competition is about community spirit rather than the appearance of the villages. There was no award for the Woodhouses this year - Rosemary said that this was because the "village venture" - the third part of the entry - had not yet started [the proposed combining of Scouts and Sports Club in one building] and therefore the entry criteria were not fully met. The Group thanked Rosemary for her hard work putting the entry together.

Village Directory

Production had stalled on a revised edition of this popular publication although much of the information is now on the community website at ↪www.woodhouse-eaves.co.uk↪ thanks to Richard B. Two volunteers offered to form a group to undertake this work, obtain a printing quotation and seek some funding.  Hazel mentioned the new Leics CC service "CPRINT" as well as TeamPrint who now print Roundabout.  Jane had noted on the Agenda for this meeting that fact that the Borough Council is to produce a directory of all businesses in the area - they are contacting the 6000 that they have already identified.  This will appear at ↪www.charnwoodbusiness.com↪ and there will be a series of local directories to cover each village.  The contact is Dave Puxley at Charnwood on 634727 or '''dave.puxley at charnwood dot gov dot uk'''

Parish Walks leaflet

This had also stalled owing to the volunteer leaving the village so Mike J offered to start it off.

Welcome Pack for new residents

Derek had talked with a new resident and asked what information would be of most help.  His source thought that the most useful information would be a list of all the local shops with their opening hours and contact details.  The Village Directory would cover this information, and Richard B has already collected it.

Service Co-ordination Event

Jane reminded the Group that this event is run by the County Council and brings representatives of the various services provided to the Parish to meet with the Parish Council and Parish Plan Group to discuss outstanding issues and produce a join action plan.  The Parish Council has now agreed two representatives and this Group needs to field those most involved in the key areas identified in the previous WPPG meeting [all members of WPPG are welcome to attend].  The areas and PC/WPPG reps nominated were:
  • Off-road riding - Liz R, Peter C, Bob W
  • Young People's Recreation Areas - Cllr Emma P, Cllr Les P
  • Public Transport - Helen R, Helen H, Evergreens, Friends of the Cottage Surgery, Baptist Church - all to be asked
'''Action: Secretary'''
  • Planning Issues - Jane W, Cllr Rosemary M, Cllr Mark W

The Group wished to be assured that the appropriate service reps would turn up.  The proposed choice of dates was 11 or 18 February 2008. '''The Group chose to request 18 February [the timing is already fixed as 4 - 6.30 p.m.] in the Village Hall''' with a WPPG planning meeting on '''Monday 28 January 2008 at 7.30''' also in the Village Hall.

The Secretary will circulate a revised, shortened version of the Parish Action Plan with these Minutes. [See WPPG Action Plan (short version).]

Village Design Statements & Planning

Examples of planning applications that appeared to contravene VDS guidance were discussed.  The Service Co-ordination Event would be an opportunity to raise the issue.  It would also be helpful if there was combined approach with other VDS groups.  Contact had been made with Diana Cook from RCC to suggest this.

Progress reports

Traffic Watch Group

Liz informed the Group that there had recently been a bit more publicity in the local free newspaper - the information given was from earlier items and interviews.  The effects of the Community Speed Watch project last autumn were wearing off - but we can have the equipment back again.  Liz was trawling for volunteers to operate both the CSW and the parish-owned equipment.  It was noted that the Leicestershire Neighbourhood Watch Group was offering to hire out speed guns - Liz would follow this up.  Liz also reported on the recent Police Authority consultative meeting, at which she had asked for continuing support from police officers and thanked them for their recent and past speed monitoring.  It was suggested that Liz should ask the Parish Council to write to police and Highways to encourage further co-operation.

Roundabout

Rosemary informed the group that the two current editors were both leaving and one former editor had moved back here and was again on the team.  Another editor is needed - if anyone knows of a suitable candidate, please get in touch with the team via '''roundabout at woodhouse-eaves dot co dot uk''' and also if there are any more volunteers to help with deliveries.  The roles of Treasurer and Advertising Manager had recently been combined into one post.

Young People's Play Area

The Group was informed that the Steering Committee working on proposals for replacing the Scout Hut favoured combining the Scouting and Sporting HQs into an extended Pavilion.  An architect was working with the group to develop a plan.

Next meeting: Monday 28 January 7.30 Village Hall - to plan the 18 February event.
